Moving In: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

It’s certainly been a crazy couple of weeks for me over here!  I imagined, but never imagined just how incredibly tiring, stressful, and difficult it is to move.  Having not done this for over 12 years, I definitely underestimated it all.  Add to that our decision to gut our kitchen the day after possession and then unexpected unpleasant discoveries, and I am ready to pack it in and fly to a sandy beach somewhere.

Where do I begin?  Well, the movers came on Friday last week and by Friday night, we realized that the furnace was not working.  So we started our first night in our kitchenless home without heat.  Things didn't stop there, by Monday we were without hot water, and Wednesday with random lights flashing when we plugged in our tv, we determined that the house was either haunted or there was definitely an electrical issue. Lol Couple that with a leaky shower and a leak in our kitchen ceiling we discovered with a bad rain last week, and we are up to our ears in challenges.  Not what you really expect when you move into a new home. Though an “old” new home can certainly throw you some curveballs.  We are catching on to that fact real fast!

As frustrating as this can be, we are determined that this isn't going to break us! We have lots of repair people coming and going. I’m hopeful we’ll get some resolution soon and that way we can get back on track with the renovations.

Here are some photos from the state of the house right now. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Our travel gallery wall went up in the master hallway.

The powder room along with all the hallways were painted, Alabaster by Sherwin Williams.

Our library/ Office is somewhat setup and I’m working on styling and organizing the book shelves.

This is the view in the master. This room was also painted Alabaster and the bookshelves are getting a fresh coat of white paint.

This was a kitchen….

Despite the challenges, I am thankful that we are happy, healthy, and together.

Hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving!

Check out this post for a look at our new house, a sprawling ranch.

To life feeling like home!

We moved the week before Christmas last year, so I can so relate. We also gutted our kitchen immediately and did a total remodel. It will all come together, just keep happy thoughts and a sense of humor. Your new home is fabulous and I am sure you will love it.
